LIFESMARTS
About the LifeSmarts ProgramLifeSmarts--the ultimate consumer challenge--is an educational opportunity that develops the consumer and marketplace knowledge and skills of teenagers in a fun way and rewards them for this knowledge. The program complements the curriculum already in place in high schools and can be used as an activity for classes, groups, clubs, and community organizations. LifeSmarts, run as a game-show style competition, is open to all teens in U.S. high schools. LifeSmarts topics include: personal finance; health and safety; the environment; technology; and consumer rights and responsibilities. In LifeSmarts, teams of four to five students, coached by an adult participant, compete in the school and state matches with the state winners going to the national competition to vie for the national LifeSmarts title. Why is LifeSmarts at Smithtown? For the past several years, Smithtown High School (East and West) has sent multiple students to regional competitions, and many have made it to complete at the state level in Albany! LifeSmarts is used to complement your experience in Career and Technical Education. Participation in competitions will greatly enhance your college applications! How Does it Work? From now until 2/04/11, your job is to create a LifeSmarts account and take as many practice quizzes as possible in order to learn how to answer all of the questions that could be asked. After you practice at school and at home, you will officially enter the online competition. On the last day of competition, the state will select the highest scores to form the Smithtown teams to hopefully compete in Albany, on March 3/30/11. The top NYS team will advance to the national competition 4/30—May 3rd in Los Angeles, California. How Do I Get Started?Follow these simple steps to begin practicing:
