Smithtown East & West DECA students did another exemplary job at the 2012 New York State DECA Competition in Rochester, New York.  There were over 2000 students participating from the State.  Smithtown had 150 students from both high schools attending the competition; with over 100 students receiving medals.  Twenty-four students qualified for the International DECA Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah next month. 

There were Chapter recognitions for both East & West.  East was the “Membership Campaign Winner” and also received recognition for having the largest DECA Chapter in New York State.  Additionally, they will receive recognition at the International DECA Competition in Salt Lake City.

The West Chapter received the “Top Contributor Award” for the New York DECA Charity, Crohn’s/Colitis Foundation of America.  Tom Giordano was elected as an officer, Secretary/Historian, for New York State DECA for the 2012-2013 school year.  Phil Como, West DECA Advisor, received the “Outstanding Service Award”.

Both schools had 5 students each inducted into the New York State DECA Honor Society.  The DECA Advisors are:  EAST – Christine LoFrese & Matt Hennings; WEST – Cindy Wood & Phil Como.  Congratulations to both the students and advisors.  (For more detailed info, please go to the District website)   www.smithtown.k12.ny.us
